Motherboard Repair – How To Repair  or Replace a Motherboard

Upgrading to Windows 2007 - How to upgrade to Windows 2007 from Windows XP

“Should I upgrade to Windows 7?”

Servicing or replacing a motherboard can be very confusing

Trying to decide whether or not you should upgrade to Windows 7 is somewhat of a moot point, especially considering most new PCs are already running the operating system. The question you should be asking yourself is: Why haven’t I upgraded yet?

Having problems installing Windows 2007?

Maybe you bought a new computer last year that Windows XP as a downgrade option. Basically, you bought Vista or Windows 7 and chose to pay a little extra to run Windows XP, which might not have been a bad decision. If, like me, you tried out Vista, got tired of beating your head against the wall because some applications you paid good money for wouldn’t work, and you’re afraid that this might happen with Windows 7. Let me put your fears to rest – Microsoft got this one right. They listened to the public’s complaints about Vista and corrected the issue.

Computer Data Files Transfer – How to Transfer Files, McLean VA (Virginia) Data Transfer, McLean, Virginia

Life changes all the time and so do our needs and lifestyles. Everything in the world has some value attached to it. It is just that the importance attached to anything here varies in accordance to both professional and personal priorities. It is at least expected out of me to grow out of my recent obsession with my new laptop in a few months from now and then may be adapt a new attraction in life. It applies to almost everything – property, jobs, shoes, cloths, bags, cars, computers, touch pads and the list goes on forever. However, memories never lose their value over time. Memories and records are not sold on some high-end store off your town’s high street. We all invest time into those and then time builds those up for us like a “too-good-to-be-true” fairytale. Organizing these memories and records as data files on computer can be considered as a step counted towards organizing lives.

Gadgets like digital cameras, super-fast computers, and sophisticated phones have made maintaining records for any kind of information much easier. We should record information and maintain files today on PC and when necessary, we must perform a Computer-to-Computer Data Transfer of Hard Drive Data Transfer for any potential future use.

What is the need of Data Transfer?

Data and Information is the most important sustenance for a business. Business or any corporate setups run smoothly with the availability of absolute information at correct time. Unlike as simple as it sounds, with the amplified volumes of data maintained and intricacy of business applications, organizations are devising new ways to organize and share data. Access to common database is highly desired in enterprise environments. The process of data transfer has to be streamlined into a way that data gets moved from one database to another with a one selected data transfer alternative.

Data transfer is equally important for individual home computer owners too while replacing a crashed hard drive, upgrading their current system or for any other reason. There are a lot of computer support companies like Geek ABC that readily provide home computer help or home computer service to their customers in Computer Problems, PC Repairs, computer fixing and Data Transfer too. Computer Service and Repair Companies like GeekABC can install Data Transfer software which on its own locates and recognizes personal files that are easy enough to be missed out haphazardly. Such software is as well capable of transferring program settings and the files too.

What is Data Transfer?

Windows Data Transfer or Mac Data Transfer refers to the act of copying data from the source device to the destination device. The source device can be an old computer, internal storage or a hard drive whereas the destination device can be an external device, CD/DVD. In External Hard Drive Data Transfer, data files get transferred from internal hard drive to an external hard drive. External Hard Drive Data Transfer may also be called Internal Drive Data Transfer.

Transfer can also be migrating data from one computer to another computer with or without the presence of network, where data is transferred or transmitted over the network.

IDE Hard Drive Data Transfer has been used as a reliable and a fast method of migrating data files between the hard drive and the Computer system. IDE catered with the least expensive interface for data transfer, however IDE is being gradually being replaced by SATA or Serial ATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) which offers more manageable and efficient interface applications.

In case of SATA Hard Drive Data Transfer, Serial ATA (SATA) a Computer Bus interface enables faster data transfer through high signaling rates to hard disk drives or optical drives.

Can I transfer data files at home?

Yes. You can transfer data files from your old hard drive to a new PC by yourself. This process involves copying the desired data to an external device that is capable of storing data. Such external device can be a CD/DVD, hard drive, or a USB Drive. It is important to make sure to scan and be getting rid of viruses, spyware and malware before you attempt to transfer data to another computer system. Skipping this step, may result into a possibility of infecting with viruses, spyware and malware into another computer system.

If you have a few files and you are aware of exactly which data files you have to transfer, you can simply copy and paste the data onto an external media. After having achieved that, you may take that copied data to your new computer to be able to access all those files on the new system successfully. A lot of external drives can be connected with the help of USB cable and it has been found that most computers are compatible with those.

The other option for you is to consider networking the old and the new computers together to transfer the data amongst. But, this is only viable if you have a wireless access.

Another easy alternative is to use USB data transfer cable or any other data transfer cable that can connect two computers together, eliminating the need for any external device to facilitate data transfer.

However, you may miss a few significant files and vital information that are sitting at some fragment within your computer. Such information at times gets overlooked and does not get transferred while attempting a manual data transfer. Transferring data is a lengthy and time-consuming process and may take you much longer time that you have anticipated.

Therefore, it is advisable to seek help from either a Computer Service or Computer Repair company or from Computer Repair Geeks. We recommend seeking help from a Computer Repair Company where they have computer technicians who are fast enough in providing pc support in the most efficient way.

Computer running slow – How to make Computer Run Faster Fairfax Virginia (VA)

I thought of writing this blog while lately having experienced myself the amount of frustration and disappointment with a slow computer. Life is easy until the day your computer starts to behave devious and operates very slow. This can become frustrating as we all perform our daily tasks being entirely dependent on Computer. Hypothetically or literally, life gets slower if our computer gets slower.

Why does your computer run slow?

It is very logical for a computer to get slow while multitasking for its users. The multitasking includes copying, moving and deleting files from one location to the other. The data on the computer in its due course gets collected with the extra files and occupy valuable disk space. Now, since you have had a limited amount of disk space available on your computer’s hard drive, the computer in a way has started to fight back to create more space to perform functions.

The other reason behind the slow speed of any computer can be its processor. Numerous programs running simultaneously on a computer like downloading a file from the internet, while as well trying to perform another task like watching a documentary on the media player or accessing Microsoft Office can also contribute towards slowing down the processor.

Graphic Card (Video Card) can also be a reason behind the reduced performance of your computer.  Graphic cards are responsible for managing the visual data. Investing in a graphic card with a reasonable memory while trying to keep the nature of audio/visual task you may expect your computer to perform will increase the amount of visual data that can be stored on the computer.

Corrupt Operating System (OS) is another cause for a slow computer.

Harmful applications like malware and viruses form another common cause for a slow computer.

Hard drive fragmentation if has been caused up to a big extent can also make up to be reason enough for your computer’s poor performance.

Random Access Memory (RAM) is a provisional memory needed by the computer to carry out its calculations.  In case the memory is not enough, it will affect the computer’s speed while trying to run a couple of programs together.

What are the signs and symptoms of a Slow Computer?

Below mentioned are a few symptoms of a slow computer:

  • It takes a lot of time while starting up.
  • On an attempt to open a new window, it is taking much longer than usual time to open one up. Also, there will be instances when a number of windows will start opening–up on their own.
  • Pages hang-up and take a long time to load. The “green bars” that constantly progresses-up to confirm to the user the extent of the page that has been loaded so far gets stuck nearly to the completion and doesn’t move further. Of course, the page stops to load!
  • The browser will time-out even before a page can load completely.
  • Anti-virus installed on the system runs continuously and slows your computer down.
  • It literally has become very difficult to access the internet.
  • Scrolling down the page is not always possible. It works when it feel like working.
  • The applications hang-up.
  • The system freezes like it will never be working again.

What are the steps of a Slow Computer?

  • You should reboot your computer as the intialmost step when you set yourself up for a “Computer-Fix-up” mission. In order to confirm if the computer is physically working fine, you might would want to Run Scan Disk. It can be a long process and may take upto several hours to finish-up depending on the size of the user’s hard drive.
  • It will also be useful if you can Run Defrag to help the correct arrangement of data.
  • Upgrading RAM is a simpler task aiming towards making your computer more manageable and quicker. In this process sometime, the old memory gets removed and new memory gets placed in the slot.
  • Physical problems and unknown damages can also build up to be a potential reason for a slow computer. Also, there can be dust building up preventing the cooling fans from doing their job, resultantly making the computer get hot.
  • It is a good practice to periodically clean-up your computer of all those unwanted and unused files that are just sitting inside the system and occupying some valuable space without any purpose.
  • It will also be useful to getting rid of malicious programs and applications by incorporating use of security products like SonicWALL.

Hard Drive Data back-up – How to back-up Data, Vienna, McLean, Great Falls: Virginia (VA) Hard Drive Data back-up

How does Computer Maintenance and Repair affect our routine tasks?

Think of it. What do we really accomplish these days without computers? We can blame technology or thank computers for eventually becoming a vital component of our daily lives. Computers contribute majorly towards upgrading our respective efficiency quotients in their own logical virtues. It is in fact amazing how computer tasks have gradually been woven into our routine chores and have proved themselves to be so proficient and reliable. Did I just say reliable? Yes, I said reliable. The computers are reliable if we care for them just like we care for our friends. Computers need maintenance and repairs like any other machines.

Computers best deliver when they are maintained and serviced regularly regardless of how you use yours. You’ll always notice a great deal of difference in achieving daily efficiency and general ease if you maintain your computers. Personal and professional lives today are intricate enough to puzzle an individual’s ability of prioritizing tasks and computers can certainly help to a major extent in sorting our lives out in the best logical means.

What are the symptoms of a system needing a Repair?

Slow computer, Printer not printing, virus or Spyware, computer startup problems, not connecting to the Internet, scanner not working, and the “blue screen of death

What involves Computer Services and Maintenance?

The most basic computer services and maintenance includes Data Backup or Recovery, upgrading memory, removing viruses, CPU, hard drives, and business network firewall set-ups.

While computer services may most likely require a technician’s intervention but we can certainly lessen the number of service trips for our computers to the Computer technicians if we perform a few basic rituals as our Computer maintenance tasks periodically. A few of simple maintenance measure that you can perform on own are:

  • Defragmenting the hard drive – Fragmenting can take down the performance of any computer. Defragmentation is a process of rearranging the files on a hard drive so as to bring them back in sequence or order, consequently diminishing the time it was taking to access files on your computer.
  • Scanning hard drive for errors
  • Repairing corrupt segments

What is data back-up?

Data Back-up refers to duplicating files to another medium as a preventative measure in case main hard drive stops working. Assuming that even the most reliable and advance computer fail, computer geeks suggest generating more than one backup of your data. It is important to keep one backup separate in a different location from other backup.

How to back-up data?

You can back-up data using operating system commands. You can as well invest in a backup utility which provides an offsite backup and recovery service that is efficient, secure and often affordable. A key advantage of using backup utilities is that these compress the data, therefore reducing the number of diskettes required for original data. Hence, it is important to:

  • Generate an emergency system recovery disk.
  • Produce two backups at least on removable media and store those separately.
  • Back up your system once a month.

Another efficient option for data backup is the key drive which is a key chain sized drive that has space for up to a gigabyte of data depending on the size and does not get damaged easily as any other medium like floppy disk or a CD-ROM. It is reasonably cheaper in price and easy enough to be used instantly.

What kind of data should you should back up?

Data back-up needs vary for different users. Financial and other vital information, personal library, inventory, work-related information, business records, photos and family videos, music, and other important files are the most common kind of data users save and store on their computer systems.

A data loss can occur in any system and to any user regardless of how safe you feel about your system.

What is the need of Data back-up?

Precaution is always better than cure.

Backing up data is an easy process and can save us time and provides data safety assurance in an unfortunate situation. On the other hand, data recovery is time consuming, realistically difficult and an expensive task. You still may not even have an assurance if the data will be fully recovered.

Each one of us has nearly everything saved on the hard drive. But the hard drive will eventually die. It may happen little by little when corrupt clusters build up until you discover that most of your hard drive is left unusable.

Power failure also account for data loss. Any important document that you have been currently working on can easily vanish if you did not save it before power failed and your PC shut down. Power surge can fry your motherboard and destroy the file allocation table of your hard drive.

Virus attacks are also responsible for data loss and may even delete files on an infected machine. Media downloads are likely to corrupt and cause fragmentation.

Motherboard Repair – How to Repair or Replace a Motherboard, Upper Marlboro, Fort Washington, Temple Hills otherboard Repair

Is it really the motherboard?

Assuming pulling the desktop apart wouldn’t be known to the most people trying to attempt the motherboard repair themselves, the role of computer repair technicians trained in the motherboard repair tasks and skilled in detecting the accurate cause of the computer troubleshooting requires basic computer technical knowledge. If you are not technical savvy, please do not attempt to repair motherboard or replace motherboard. Our recommendation would be to acquire professional computer assistance.

It’s quite usual the motherboards being charged for a computer problem located somewhere else in the pc.  To begin with the initial analysis of Motherboard Repair task, it is crucial to examine the basic signs while trying to investigate where the problem actually is. Seek help of an external screen in the case of computer screen switching-off when being operated. The mother board repair task may include back and forth testing of various computer parts. So, one must not assume the LCD screen to be faulty if the external screen fails to work as well. It can now be the turn for the video card or chipset which the user has to examine if it belongs to the motherboard or a PCB.

Once can return it for an exchange if the motherboard is within the warranty. One may as well require a new memory and a new processor if planning to exchange a defective motherboard. The less expensive option is to replace or repair faulty electrolytic capacitors yourself.

Keyboard Shortcuts – Keyboard Shortcuts And Their Benefits

Hmm what are keyboard shortcuts and how they’ll be benefit you? According wiki it’s In computing, a keyboard shortcut is a finite set of one or more keys that invoke a software ,well particularly in this case vista , operation when triggered by the user. When used can almost double your productivity, Included in this article are majority of the shortcuts used in vista that were found on the Microsoft Windows Vista Help pages. The list is complete, pretty long and some of them are not so useful or easy to remember as compared to some of the other. Since on the help page had all of the shortcuts that are found in vista, this is why I tried to compact it a little and decided to publish only those which I found are useful in this article.

Ergonomic Keyboards – The Benefits Of Using An Ergonomic Keyboard

If you’ve ever experienced pain in your hands, wrists or forearms that seems to be associated with current or past keyboard use, one thing you should consider investing in is an ergonomic keyboard.  Ergonomic keyboards have been around for quite a while and they are specially contoured and designed to reduce the amount of stress that is put on your wrists and hands while typing, and although they can be a bit more expensive, an ergonomic keyboard can be a worthwhile investment.  If you are a regular computer user and especially if you do a lot of typing, you can save yourself from the major discomforts that are caused by using a traditional keyboard.  Regular use of a traditional keyboard tends to cause poor posture of the wrists, hands, shoulders and neck, all of which can and most often will lead carpal tunnel syndrome or other “repetitive motion injuries”.  Using an ergonomic keyboard can provide its user with a healthier, and therefore, more constructive, efficient, and productive style of typing.

Ergonomic keyboards can basically be classified in to two different styles, adjustable or set.  With the adjustable model, even though it’s more expensive, you have the ability to adjust and set the angle of the keys to your own personal preference.  The set or fixed models aren’t as expensive as the adjustable but work in a similar fashion where the board seems to be split in half but in a fixed position where the keys are at an angle to match the shape of your wrists.  The set models tend to be more popular due to choice but if you are a daily computer user, an adjustable model will pay for itself in no time.

The advantage of using an ergonomic keyboard is that it provides the user a proper, relaxed, and more comfortable position for the hands, wrists, neck and shoulders.  Also, by allowing all of the fingers the ability to flex and extend, you greatly decrease your risk of suffering from a “repetitive motion injury”.

Having been a long time sufferer of carpal tunnel and going through the surgery to correct it, I have to say that purchasing an ergonomic keyboard is a great investment and it will save you in the long run.

Here at Geek ABC we strive to provide you with the best information we can to help make these types of decisions easier.  If you do decide that you want to purchase an ergonomic keyboard, Geek ABC’s experienced technicians are here to help you from beginning to end, just give us a call at 1877-GEEK-ABC  (1877-433-5222) to set up an appointment and we will be there every step of the way, from helping you decide which style of keyboard best suits your needs to installing and the set up of your new keyboard.

Ergonomic Keyboards are only the beginning to what you can use to ease the stress of and reduce the chance of injury from working on computers these days.  There are different Mouse options as well and I hope to touch on that subject in a blog in the near future.
