Bethesda Maryland (MD), Mclean, Arlington, Vienna Virginia (VA) & Washington DC Connecting Your Macbook To Wifi – How To Connect Your Macbook To Wifi, Bethesda Maryland (MD) & Mclean & Arlington & Vienna Virginia (VA) & Washington DC

Most of us have gotten to the point where we have cut the cords at home and are using wireless connections for our computers and other gadgets.  Having a wireless connection at home can make life a lot easier but there are times when you may run in to issues; like connecting you new Macbook or Macbook  Pro.  Fortunately for Mac users, connecting to the internet is easy if you have your home network already set up.

If you don’t already have a wireless home network set up and you are unsure about how to do it yourself we here at Geek ABC are here to help.  Geek ABC is an on-site network and computer/laptop service and repair company for both PC and Mac and we provide services to residential and business customers throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.  If you need help setting up a new wireless network or have an existing network that needs updating we can be reached via our website www.geekabc.com or give us a call at 1.877.GEEKABC (1.877.433.5222) to schedule an appointment.  Our technicians have experience with Mac as well as PC.  We provide onsite, same day service and when one of our geeks comes to your home to set up your wireless network they will help you connect your router and configure the firmware to communicate with your highspeed internet service provider as well as all of your computers and other wireless devices.  We will also test and make sure that all of your devices are compatible and running properly and we will help you set up your network security and encryption so that your network is safe from nosey neighbors and other unwelcome hackers that may try to get in.

For those of you who already have your wireless home network set up and you need to connect your Macbook or Macbook Pro, the process is almost too simple.  The first thing you will need to do is make sure that Airport icon in enabled.  If the icon is black then it is connected, if it is gray then it is not and you will have to turn it on.  This is a simple as clicking the icon and then clicking the “Airport: On”.  In most cases, once the Airport card is enabled, a list of networks will appear in the drop down box.  From here you can choose your network and connect wirelessly.  If you have security and encryption in place you will need to know your WEP or WPA password.

One issue that you may run in to is if you don’t see the airport icon in the menu bar.  In this case you will need to go in and configure your network manually.  This too is very simple.  First you will click on the apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and choose “system preferences” from the drop down menu.  Once in System Preferences you will go to the “Network” Icon under “Internet & Network”.  Next you want to make sure the “Airport” button is highlighted and then press configure.  From here you want to make sure that you check the box at the bottom of the window that says “Show Airport status in menu bar”.  This will now allow you to access your airport connections from the menu bar and when you click on it you will be able to see and choose the wireless connection that you want to access.

Here at Geek ABC we want to make your computer experience as simple as possible.  If you ever need help please feel free to give us a call at 1.877.GEEKABC (1.877.433.5222) or check us out on the web www.geekabc.com .
