Fairfax Virginia (VA) Wireless Network & Router Encryption – Wireless Network & Router Encryption For Home & Small Business Users
Just about everywhere you go, today, there seems to be a Wi-Fi connection that you can hop on, if you wanted to. Public places such as coffee shops, cafés, hotels, libraries, and college campuses, for the most part, have a Wi-Fi connection that you can use if you are a guest, customer, or student. But these aren’t the only places you will find Wi-Fi, most home users, these days, have a wireless network set up with Wi-Fi so that they can use their computers in every part of the house or to wirelessly connect other electronics such as printers, PDA phones, gaming consoles (Wii, Xbox, PlayStation), netbooks, iPods, iPads, and other Bluetooth/Wi-Fi devices.
When you have a wireless home network set up, the users need to be aware of the possible dangers that exist. Without proper encryption you may face situations like hackers attempting to steal your personal information, as well as possible, virus, malware, and/or spyware intrusions. It is extremely important to have your router properly encrypted and to be aware of the encryption standard/method that is being used. Current routers on the market today offer at least two forms of encryption, WEP and WPA/WPA2.
When you set up your wireless network it is important to make sure that your connection is secured and show’s as “locked”. This will keep out nosy neighbors or random hackers from accessing your internet connection with out your permission. For the most part people are just looking for a free connection but there are hackers out there who are looking for unsecured networks that the can get in to for the purpose of stealing information.
I plan to go into further detail about WEP and WPA/WPA2 encryption in a future blog. What they mean, what the differences are, and which one might work best for you.
