Washington DC Metropolitan Area Fixed Price Computer Repair – Geek ABC’s New Flat Rate Computer Deal, Washington DC Metropolitan Area

If your computer seems to be failing or just feel like it’s running really slow and driving you crazy, Geek ABC’s new $99.00 promotion may be the answer for you. Geek ABC is a locally owned computer and network repair and service company who provides same-day, on-site computer and network service and repair. But we’re trying something new that will help people of all kinds and in my opinion is our best deal ever.
Basically what it comes down to is we will totally fix your computer for $99.00 (not including parts and data recovery and migration), and if we can’t fix it you only pay the $49 diagnostic fee. If you ask me, this away all of the guess work needed to figure out what a repair may cost if it’s hourly. Simply put, no matter how much work needs to be done, we will do it for $99.00, and if there are no parts needed, $99.00 is all you will be charged. The only difference between this service and our regular service is that with this deal we will come and pick your computer up, bring it to our shop, fix it (this could take a few days), and return it to you. The only other additional charge you may find is related to where you live in relation to our shop, depending on where you live there may be a small travel fee involved but you can avoid the travel fee all together by dropping your computer off here at our shop. The only thing we ask of you, when we pick the computer up at your site, is that you have the PC unplugged and ready to go.

On top of our new flat rate promotion, Geek ABC also provides the best service warranty in the area, 90 days!  We can also provide you with the set up of your computer when we return it to your home but that, again, is an additional fees.

So, to sum things up, for $99.00 flat (due at pickup) and a few days away from your PC, Geek ABC will fix anything wrong with your computer.  Again, this does not include any parts or data recovery or migration.  When we get the computer to our shop we will run diagnostics and give you a call with possible solutions and let you decide what works best for you and your budget.

If this sounds like something that you are interested in please feel free to reach us via our website www.geekabc.com or give us a call at 1.877.GEEKABC (1.877.433.5222) to schedule an appointment.

Northern Virginia (VA) Battery Backup – Protecting Your Computer With A Battery Backup, Northern Virginia

Also known as an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), a battery backup is one of the best ways to protect and preserve your computer as well as your data.  This is especially important when we maintain highly sensitive and important data on our computers or if we have an expensive computer system.

Geek ABC is a locally owned computer and network support and repair company.  We work hard to provide you with quality information to help you make the right computer (PC) decisions.  We can be reached via our website www.geekabc.com, or give us a call at 1.877.GEEKABC (1.877.433.5222) to schedule an appointment. We provide same-day, mobile, onsite computer and network support and repair for residential and business customers throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan area.

Most people think that having a surge protector is enough to keep their computer safe, no to mention they are inexpensive.  This is really only the case when you are talking about voltage spikes.  Surge protectors don’t help to maintain the constant voltage level, “condition” the power, which is coming in to your computer.  Therefore, in the instance of a brown-out (low power conditions) or power failure, they are useless.  Brown-outs can be extremely harmful because they cause your computer to run on an extremely low voltage which puts a incredible amount of strain on your computers hardware.

One of the main purposes of a battery backup is to, again, “condition” the power and to maintain a constant voltage level for the electricity that is coming in to your computer.  Any sort of power change is very harmful to your computer and can eventually cause it to start failing.  Battery backups also have a quicker response time than surge protectors.  This will help with sudden and quick spikes in electrical current, which is constantly fluctuating.

The other reason to invest in a battery back up is that it protects your data.  I’m sure that I’m not the only one who has been in the middle of working on something when the power suddenly goes out and you’re afraid that you’ve just lost everything that you were working on that you hadn’t recently saved.  We all know how important the data is on our computers and taking certain precautions can help prevent us from losing it.

APC is the one of the most common, well-kn0wn brands for battery backups and when you start your research in to buying a batter backup (UPS) it’s probably smart to stick with brands that you know, just as with any other computer product.  There are some brands that are cheaper and that we aren’t as familiar with that can be just as good as the popular more expensive brands, but before you invest in them, do the research!  Most people should be able to survive just fine with a lesser expensive product that will keep your computers power running, in the event of a blackout or brownout, for about 5 to 15 minutes, which is plenty of time to save what you are working on and shut down the computer without issues.

In the long run, this will save you a lot of hassle when it comes to data loss and recovery as well as protecting your computers hardware from damage.

Washington DC Desktop Vs. Laptop – Choosing Your Next Computer, Desktop Vs. Laptop, Washington DC

If you’re in the market for a new computer, you might find yourself wondering if you should invest in a new desktop or laptop.  Both types of computers have their Pro’s and Con’s and Geek ABC is here to assist in helping you make that decision.  We can be reached via our website, www.geekabc.com, or give us a call at 1.877.GEEKABC (1.877.433.5222) to schedule an appointment.  We provide same day, mobile, onsite computer support and repair services for residential and business customers in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.

First let’s take a look at the Pro’s and Con’s of a owning a desktop computer (PC):

Pros:

  • Faster overall processing speed
  • More Memory and Drives
  • Easier to Customize and Upgrade by yourself
  • Function better for multimedia purposes, such as gaming, functioning as a TV, DVR, DVD/CD player, and photo display
  • If you work with graphics, gaming, or photo editing, you can easily upgrade and choose your viewing space with a larger monitor
  • They cost less than laptops

Cons:

  • They aren’t easily portable
  • You need to have space to set them up, especially if you aren’t investing in an all-in-one, like the Apple Mac. (Basic set up will require space for a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and computer tower)
  • You will need multiple outlets and cables for your peripherals
  • In general they are heavy and a hassle to move when you need to.

As far as Laptop’s go, the Pro’s and Con’s are as followed:

Pros:

  • Portability!  Even with the larger laptops, you can close them up, put them in a bag, and take them anywhere.
  • They are self contained.  This helps to keep your workspace neat and clean because, essentially, all you need is a power cord and possibly an Ethernet cable for internet connectivity.
  • If you do want to you it as your main computer you can invest in a docking station and attach a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
  • And Last but not Least, because they are battery powered, as long as the battery has charge, you don’t have to worry about losing a document during a power failure.

Cons:

  • They can be difficult to customize and upgrade
  • If you need repair you will most likely have to go directly to the manufacturer to fix it, if it’s still in warranty, and if the warranty is expired it could be costly to repair
  • They are easily stolen and you may have to invest extra in a laptop lock
  • They are easily damaged if dropped, especially the screen, and if you spill something on the keyboard it could ruin the entire computer.
  • They are more expensive

So overall, whether you decide to invest in a desktop or laptop, it’s all about what fits your lifestyle better.  For students, it’s nice to have a laptop that is easily portable and can be taken to class and libraries to study, but they can be easily stolen as well.  Desktops are better suited for families who have the space or for someone who needs to multimedia capabilities for work or fun.  Again, either way you decide to choose, Geek ABC is here to help!
