Tips to help increase the lifespan of your computer:
Keep your computer clean – Most computers today come preloaded with a number programs and software that you won’t use, take the time to go through and uninstall them. De-fragment your hard drive at least once a month to keep your files organized. Back-up and archive any documents you don’t plan on using to CD or DVD, delete them off of your hard drive and store them in a safe place.
Keep your computer up-to-date – Keep your antivirus up-to-date and set it to perform regular scans. Check for system and software updates on a regular basis.
Increase your RAM (Memory) - RAM or Random Access Memory is probably the quickest and most cost effective way to give your computer that new PC feeling. Insufficient RAM is one of the leading causes of a slow PC.
Upgrade your Hard Drive – You can significantly improve your system’s performance by adding more storage.
Don’t be the first one to upgrade your OS – When new Operating Systems come out they aren’t without bugs. Wait to upgrade your system when all of the kinks have been worked out.
Expect 4 years – A good computer should last about three to four years and with regular maintenance and upkeep you can stretch that an extra year or two.
